Dr. Donald S. Reinhardt’s 35 Basic Points of the Pivot System
Dr. Donald S. Reinhardt later regretted the choice of both words in the umbrella title for his teaching: Pivot System. He had taken the word pivot from the golf links, and the word system he later decided was a bad choice. Reinhardt’s definition of pivot in brass playing has nothing to do with what most brass players call a pivot. The word system leads one to believe that there is one hard and fast way of doing things. And in later years Reinhardt was repeatedly heard saying that “there are as many systems as there are players.”
