Key of A-flat, but starts with the verse in C. Nice easy 4/4 swing presentation of verse at quarter note = 120 played by the four horns followed by a cut-time arrangement of the melody. After a solo space, there is a second arrangement of the melody for trumpet or optional vocal with 3-horn backing. After a second space for solos, there is a third presentation of the melody for the out-chorus, ending with a pretty 3/2 tag. This energetic arrangement makes a great closer, or an excellent number if you want to get dancers on their feet.

The sturdy old 1928 tune (in B-flat) by Spencer Williams complete with stop time trumpet (or vocal) intro “call and response” figures with horns and rhythm. Has a whimsical ensemble section that quotes a couple of old favorites (Mares Eat Oats and I’m Getting Sentimental Over You) to be played between solos. Has a traditional dixieland-style tag and ends with the Louis Armstrong trademark “Oh, yeah.”

The great 1916 standard by John Golden and Raymond Hubbell, arranged in A-flat in a Latin/jazz style. Comes complete with montuno introduction, a send-off between solos and an exciting 32-bar soli section beautifully voiced for the four horns. Melody is trumpet and alto in unison with counterlines by tenor and trombone, culminating in four-part voicings for the last eight bars of the melody. Open solo section can feature vocal chorus. Hard Hearted Hannah by Yellen/Ager/Bigelow/Bates 
Great novelty tune from 1924 that is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Four-horn introduction, then trumpet player sings (or plays) the verse followed by the refrain with background figures by the other three horns complete with stop-time sections. Solo section includes chord changes to verse as well as refrain. After solos, trumpet player sings (or plays) a second verse followed by a different refrain with different background figures by the other three horns including stop-time sections. At the end of that chorus, the tempo picks up for another refrain with stop-time leading into a slow, “bump ’n grind” finish. This makes a perfect encore number.

Arranged to be played at quarter note = 112 (brighter section at 148 and “bump ’n grind” section at 80). 128 written measures, duration depends on number of solos.

The classic 1912 Ernie Burnett tune that has withstood the test of time. This arrangement has the verse played by the tenor sax and trombone over a reharmonized chord progression. Solos over refrain followed by different arrangement of the melody for the out-chorus.
